Headlines: 11/17 - Now That That is Done... - Let me start by saying that I really hate Physics. I apologize to those of you this comment may offend, but I had a major test today that I had to take, but now that it's done with, I can settle down to more important things, like DVD. I just picked up my copy of Tomorrow Never Dies: SE and it looks great. I've read through the booklet and found a lot of interesting tidbits including a list of villains and the actors (or actresses that played them), the beautiful Bond girls and the actresses that played them, and a list of the special gadgets employed in each film. I haven't had a chance to take a look at the supplements just yet, but when I do, you can bet that I will post a full review. I've also updated Jim Taylor's Official DVD FAQ, so you might want to check that out. The copy that I have posted is as current as November 5th. That's all for now...Have a wonderful day! 11/11 - Sorry! - Due to circumstances beyond my control, many of you probably noticed that this page was not accessable for about a week. I guess they were updating their software, but there isn't much I can do about it. Now, onto the important news. I'm sure you've all heard by now, but Wal-Mart looks as if they will be joining the DIVX campaign. What can we do to stop them. It appears as if they are ignoring the e-mail campaign that has been started around the net, so I think you should all take the advice of our fellow DVD enthusiast Steve Tannehill. He has an interesting idea on his DVD Resource Page. Also, some big DVD announcements occurred over the course of the past week, including Armageddon, Deep Impact, and several others. To find the full list of titles, check out the news section at the Laserviews website. I know this update lacked a little substance, but I'll get back on track as soon as I get a chance to catch my bearings here. For now, have a wonderful day! 11/4 - Hello again! - Well, let me take this quick moment to apologize for the lack of updates to this page. I just started training for my new job so things have been a little hectic. Now that I'm getting through that, things should settle down around here enough where I can devote a little more time to this site. I have some big things planned in the near future for this site. First, I have joined a DVD webring, but I can't do anything until the webmaster running the webring e-mails me back, so that is the reason for the broken image at the bottom of this page. I've also archived my October reports, and you can view those here. I do plan on adding a guestbook in the near future, so stay tuned for that as well. Now, onto the more important matters...DVD news! A lot has happened in DVD world since I last updated this page. First off, you may want to check the laserviews page for the newest information on the current DVD releases. In there is the announcement for Armageddon, a movie that I have been waiting for. Also, Bill Hunt has an interesting tidbit about DVD total player sales on his Digital Bits page. Apparently, the number is currently a little above the 970,000 mark, meaning that it is very likely that the 1 million mark will happen sometime next week. Also, over the weekend the hot topic around the net was that Wal-Mart was about to announce support for the DIVX format. As of right now, Wal-Mart has stated that they will not currently support the DIVX product, but in reading the fine print you get the feeling that that could change in the near future. I'm saving the biggest space in my daily column for Fox. What can I say about them. They support DIVX, they have lackluster support for Open DVD, and now with their current releases on the streets, they expect us to buy them at $34.99 SRP...as I said it before, and I will say it again: NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!! What does Fox think they are doing? They seem to be trying to bring the old laserdisc prices back into the market with DVD. NOTE TO FOX That's not going to work. With all the quality discs out there for half that price, why would I waste my money on a crappy film with no extras? The market has shown in the past with Lost In Space that if you price a movie right and provide enough supplements, you can turn a box office bomb into a successful DVD. I know one thing is for sure, Fox won't be getting a lot of peoples business until they lower those prices and decide to really support the format. Several surveys on-line indicate that only 5% of those polled will actually buy those discs. Anyone at Fox listening? Well, that's all for today. Come back later and I shall have more news waiting! 10/29 - Brief Update - I did a little surfing on the web today, and I discovered these banners that I thought were creative. I've also placed another at the bottom of this page that will be there permanently. Take a look, and enjoy! News, News, News - Well, new release Tuesday brought me a new disc entitled Gone With the Wind. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of the movie, but it is a classic that will be played over and over again. Plus I couldn't resist with the price of only $19.95! Things have been hectic this week, but they've finally had a chance to calm down so I should have time to do more updating around here. If you haven't already done so, take a look at the Laserviews page for the latest info on new announcements. Also, if you've noticed, Godzilla has been confirmed for next Tuesday. The list of extras on this disc are outstanding, making this mediocre movie into an outstanding disc. I can't wait to hear and see Godzilla rampaging through my dorm room! Over at the DVD Resource Page, Steve Tannehill has some great info on upcoming Fox releases. Of course, they may be just rumors, but he never seems to swing anybody the wrong way. For now, enjoy the rest of your day!
