Welcome to the Rumors Page

I'm sure you all know that a lot of DVD related news is actually just a rumor. Now, any material published on this page may actually end up being entirely false, but sometimes, rumors are like that. Enjoy!!

So what's all the fuss about? Well, sources all around the web are saying that one of the first releases, Small Soldiers, will be a collector's edition with commentaries and the whole box of goodies we've come to expect from the Columbia-Tristar people.

The rest of the DVD's all look promising as well as they are expected to be dual-layered and quite possibly anamorphic widescreen which is always a big plus in my book. They should street for the SRP of $29.99, and the CE's with a price of $34.99, making them $24.99 and $29.99 reespectively in most stores.  All I can say is that I can't wait to see Saving Private Ryan on the digital platform!

Some interesting rumors out of the Dreamworks DVD department. Apparently, when they do release their discs, they will be full featured including trailers, commentaries, DD 5.1, etc. This comes as a shock to me, because with their cautious attitude toward the DVD maket early on, you'd expect them to release those bare-bones DVDs that Buena Vista has given us. Let's hope these rumors hold water...

It has been said Paramount has sent out a sell sheet to certain companies that will alow them to start taking preorders for the Titanic DVD. Right now, it is rumored to be relesed around December 8th. Of course, you never know what could happen. Some people said Titanic would be released day and date with VHS, so who knows?

Rumors have been flying all over the place lately, but it seems that the November releases for Paramount have been decided. Of course, these may not be right, but the release schedule should stay close to this. All of these should have Dolby Digital 5.1, and if you want a full list of features, check out the Digital Bits page.

November 10 -

The Ghost and the Darkness
Star Trek: Generations
John Grisham's The Rainmaker
Mission: Impossible

November 24 -

Switchback
Breakdown
The First Wives' Club
The Hunt for Red October

Now, if they'd only release Braveheart by Christmas...

Here's an exciting rumor for all of you James Cameron lovers (me included): In the recent issue of Rolling Stones magazine, they published an interview with James Cameron (I'd copy the exact quote for you, but that would be extremely illegal!). In this article, James Cameron mentions that the Titanic DVD should be out by Christmas. Now, I don't know who to believe. Mr. Cameron says Christmas; Paramount still hasn't said anything, but the rumors are saying February. It will be interesting to see where this one leads.

Word has it that Speilberg is finally coming close to allow his titles for release on DVD. Many are now saying that we can expect to see Deep Impact and Amistad by Christmas. Mask of Zorro is also supposedly in the works. When Speilberg does finally cross that line, DIVX will have absolutely nothing to hold over DVD. Hopefully, Dreamworks will have smarts enough to commit to open DVD in time to release Saving Private Ryan day and date with the VHS version. That way, we can experience the movie with the theater quality sound that it was intended to be viewed with!!

Apparently, it's true that Fox has decided to replace one of their initial planned releases, The Abyss, with Speed. The reason?...None other than James Cameron himself. Bill Hunt of the Digital Bits has a good lead on this one. For more information, check out his site at http://www.thedigitalbits.com
